Become a Tutor
Our volunteer tutors are the heart and soul of READ NB! All tutors are trained to work one-to-one with adults who would like to improve their basic literacy skills. This free and confidential program is offered throughout the province through our local READ NB councils who pair tutors with learners within their community.
You could be a tutor!
We are always looking for tutors! Our tutors include men and women of all ages and from many different backgrounds. These volunteers are committed to helping others and are truly changing lives! READ NB hopes that volunteer tutors who complete the tutor training to commit to working with an adult learner for up to one year. The schedule is flexible and you are matched so that your availability and the learners closely match. Sometimes a tutor can only give one session every two weeks. We have learners for whom, that may be enough. Others may meet twice a week. If you have less time available, do not immediately think that means you can't tutor. We will find the right learner for you. To find out more about how you can become a volunteer tutor with READ NB (Laubach Literacy New Brunswick), contact Alison, our Coordinator, Provincial Volunteers, by phone at 506-381-7090 or 1-877-633-8899, or by email at volunteer@readnb.ca. |
READ NB provides a safe and respectful working environment. Tutors and learners will work, usually at third-party locations such as libraries, in facilities that are conducive to learning. Tutors and learners are required to undergo a background check and complete the intake process to ensure safety and compatibility. Tutors are also expected to respect their learner's confidentiality.
